Otolaryngologists (Ear Nose and Throat specialists) will refer a patient for voice therapy before attempting surgical removal of nodules. Often, with voice therapy, the nodules decrease in size or disappear completely, avoiding a painful surgical procedure.
Tongue Thrust
- Tongue pushes forward against upper teeth
- Frontal lisp speech disorder (using "th" sound, instead of "s")
Some dentists refer children and adolescents for this type of therapy in preparation for orthodontic work. A forward tongue posture can also contribute to a frontal lisp.
